Connect to Empower
“Connect to Empower” supports women and girls at risk or survivors of physical/psychological violence, abuse, exploitation by advancing awareness on gender discrimination and women’s rights through performing art activities and trainings. It reaches up to 216 Lebanese and refugees in the Bekaa.
The project is in partnership with La Guilde, and with the support of La Fondation de France and Agence française de développement (AFD).
Women and girls are empowered through awareness-raising sessions that provide rights-based education about their rights and their role in the society, and helps to advance their sexual and reproductive rights, including early marriage, child and sexual abuse. They become aware of how traditions and patriarchal social norms shape their lives, learn their rights and develop a critical awareness. The project enables them to see themselves as active individuals who can affect social change, and provide them with the opportunity to develop skills at the personal and collective levels.
Women and girls are also engaged in self-exploration through theatrical performance. They can understand, retell, act out and/or create their own stories and explore significant issues related to their identity, their bodies, skin, their relation to space and to each other, and communicate about their desire, struggle, strength and resilience.
Finally, the project creates an enabling environment for women and girls to protect themselves on the internet and to take necessary steps to stay safe online. It builds the women and girls' own awareness of the Cyber-Ethics and Responsible use while accessing the Internet. Women and girls will be able to manage those risks in a way that facilitates positive use of technology. They will be able to use Cybersafe strategies to protect their personal information and their devices and will also become familiar with the Lebanese Law of cybercrime and the National hotline allocated for this service.
